So I went to a local defensive pistol competition this past weekend.
How'd I do?
3rd in my division (marksman) and 6th overall.
Not bad considering it has been well over a year since I have competed, or shot for that matter. In the shooting world, we like to say that marksmanship is a perishable skill.
Use it or loose it.
In Z-Health we say the same thing. Its all based on the SAID principle. Which in a nutshell says that you get better at what you do.
So if sitting hunched over a keyboard or on the couch is your skill, your body will get very good at that.

"Awesome!" you say, Olympic level couch-potatoing here I come!
Well here's the bad news. You will become so good at this posture that when your 80, guess what you're gonna look like?

Yea... Thats right...A freakin' gargoyle.
Pretty sure that's not what you want.
The other interesting thing I noticed this weekend was my front sight.
This is a big deal in shooting. In general you place the front sight where you want the bullet to go.
Now this isn't hard to do...Unless of course the timer goes off behind you...and you are with a group of very competent shooters...trying to hit a target while running for cover....and its your 11th shot after reloading the mag...
Did I mention you were running for cover...and that you're being timed? And that there are some cute girls who present who are out shooting you?
Yea. No pressure.
Now in the past I would end up losing the front sight after a few shots and end up shooting pretty crappy. Not so this time.
So, what changed?
Well, for starters, before and after my round, I was doing dynamic joint mobility drills (Quick Start DVD or the R-Phase DVD) to pull me out of threat. At home/gym/work I have been doing vision drills that I learned at the Essentials of Elite Performance cert.
Headin' to the range tomorrow for some more rudimentary drills (grip training, draw and fire, etc)
I'm hoping to score much better at my next comp...will letcha know how it goes...
