New Years Musings + Recipie

Well, by now you've been assaulted by all the new years rez stuff, including the need to detox...pffft, whatever. You have kidneys and a Liver for that. 

Now there is one thing you can do to help your metabolism, that is to reduce the endotoxins sitting in your intestines..

"...Endotoxin formed in the bowel can block respiration and cause hormone imbalances contributing to instability of the nerves, so it is helpful to optimize bowel flora, for example with a carrot salad; a dressing of vinegar, coconut oil and olive oil, carried into the intestine by the carrot fiber, suppresses bacterial growth while stimulating healing of the wall of the intestine. The carrot salad improves the ratio of progesterone to estrogen and cortisol, and so is as appropriate for epilepsy as for premenstrual syndrome, insomnia, or arthritis..." -Dr Ray Peat

Here's a simple recipie.

  • 1 carrot, washed, NOT PEELED (we want the antifungal properties of the skin)
  • 1 tsp Refined coconut oil (you dont need organic, and unrefined is not desireable as it sucks for cooking (low smoke point) and the the fiber that can be irritating to the gut for some)
  • 1 tsp of white vinegar
  • a dash of salt.

Shred the washed, unpeeled carrot. 

Rinse it in water to remove excess beta-carotene (till the water is not orange)

Pat it dry.

Add melted coconut oil, vinegar, salt. Stir.


Eat it once a day. I like mine after breakfast, but before lunch.
